Fishing in Scotland for trout mainly falls into three categories.

The Rivers
Hundreds of rivers hold trout, generally the fast flowing spate rivers hold lots of small fish but there are significant exceptions like the Tay, Tweed, Tummel, Ericht, Earn and Aberdeenshire Don where pound plus wild trout are taken every season.

If you drive up the M74 around Abington you will see the river Clyde, a superb trout river both for wet and dry fly. You can get a day ticket from Abington Services.

Trout river fishing in Scotland is relatively inexpensive and trout fishing access even on some of the best Salmon beats can be obtained if permission is sought politely. Keep in mind many of the rivers have Protection orders so permission must be obtained before starting to fish.

The Lochs
Thousand of lochs all over Scotland hold wild brown trout but some of the best might involve a wee walk. Ask in any pub or hotel, someone will help or put you in touch as to the best fishing in the area. Some you might need a boat and local knowledge and on many you will not see another soul for all the time you are there.

The Stillwaters
Still water fishing for rainbows and browns has developed here in Scotland just like other parts of U.K. the monthly fishing magazines will be a good place to start but the Scottish and Area Tourist boards publish excellent guides to all types of game and course fishing.
