Becoming an angling coach will provide you with:

  • a recognised qualification
  • appropriate training to develop your coaching skills
  • the ability to pass on your angling knowledge and skills confidently and safely to other people
  • recognition from governing bodies, clubs, the Environment Agency, County Sports Partnerships and Local Authorities as being qualified and safe to coach angling
  • appropriate insurance cover through the ADB Coach Licence to Practice Scheme

Angling coach qualifications are licensed through fishcoach.org which forms part of the Angling Development Board and is acknowledged by 1st 4 Sport and Sport England.

WHAT ANGLING COACHING QUALIFICATIONS ARE AVAILABLE?

THERE ARE TWO LEVELS OF ANGLING COACHING QUALIFICATIONS AVAILABE; THE 1ST4SPORT LEVEL 1 CERTIFICATE IN COACHING ANGLING (L1CCA) AND THE 1ST4SPORT LEVEL 2 CERTIFICATE IN COACHING ANGLING (L2CCA)

Both qualifications are accredited by the Qualification Curriculum Authority (QCA) and are award by a recognised Awarding Body, 1st4sport Qualifications.

What will an L1CCA involve?

Level 1 CCA is a generic course and qualifies you as an assistance coach who can plan, deliver, and review angling coaching activities. You will be able to work under the guidance of a Level 2 angling coach. You will be known as a Registered Coach and will also be offered the opportunity to have a Criminal Record Bureau check completed.

What will an L2CCA involve?

The Level 2 CCA qualifies you to become an independent coach who can plan, deliver and review linked and progressive angling sessions. It can be taken by anyone over the age of 17 who has completed and passed a level 1 coaching qualification and has some experience of angling. When you have successfully completed qualification, you can become an ADB Licensed Coach.

What are the benefits of becoming an angling coach?

Angling is also working with Sports Coach UK to gain UK Coaching Certificate endorsement for the angling coaching programme.

WHAT IS THE ADB COACH LICENCE TO PRATICE SCHEME?

THE ANGLING DEVLOPMENT BOARD (ADB) COACH LICENCE TO PRACTICE SCHEME IS A SCHEME THAT COACHES CAN SUBSCRIBE TO IN ORDER TO OBTAIN COMPREHENSIVE INSURANCE AND OTHER BENEFITS.

It is underpinned by a set of minimum quality standards to practice as an angling coach. This includes the need for angling coaches to:

  • hold a recognised angling coaching qualification
  • sign up and abide by the ADB Equity and Child Protection Policy
  • sign up and abide by Sport Coach UK Code of Practice for Sports Coaches
  • produce evidence of logged coaching practice
  • produce evidence of ongoing continuous professional development
  • produce photographic ID
  • have completed a Criminal Records Bureau check

Who is it for?

Both Level 1 and Level 2 qualified angling coaches can apply for the ADB Coach Licence to Practice scheme. Level 1 angling coaches are qualified as assistant coaches and can apply for registered coach status. Level 2 coaches are qualified to independently coach and can apply for the licensed coach status.

  • it provides comprehensive insurance cover
  • recognition from governing bodies, clubs, the Environment Agency, County Sports partnerships and Local Authorities as being qualified and safe to coach angling
  • it provides a quality assurance mechanism for employers of coaches

  • re-assurance for schools and parents that the appropriate checks have been undertaken

WHAT IS SPORT ENGLAND CLUBMARK?

SPORT ENGLAND’S CLUBMARK IS A CROSS-SPORT ACCREDITATION FOR SPORTS CLUBS WITH JUNIOR SECTIONS IN RECOGNITION OF BEING A QUALITY CLUB.

Clubmark has been introduced to provide a focus around which national governing bodies, Sport England, Sports Coach UK, Child Protection in Sport Unit, County Sports Partnerships, English Federation of Disability Sport, Women’s Sport Foundation, Sporting Equals and Local Authorities recognise good practice in sports clubs working with children and young people.

Clubmark for Angling is the Angling Development Board’s accreditation scheme for clubs. It is a national recognition of clubs that demonstrate they are working towards minimum operating standards.

Why do Clubmark for Angling?

Clubs achieving the Clubmark for Angling Award are:

  • recognised as working towards providing a safe, effective and child friendly angling environment.
  • being recognised and chosen by County Sports partnerships, Local Authorities and the Environment Agency as clubs with which to work and support
  • more able to gain access to additional funding opportunities
  • sending a clear message to parent that the needs of children have been thoroughly considered and addressed
