About Simon Howden:
I am a Painter, Illustrator, Photographer and Graphic Designer.
I have worked in the graphic design industry for the past 30+ years, having initially trained as an artist in ’fine art’.
I have continued to paint and illustrate whilst working commercially, and am now looking to ‘step out’ from behind the daily grind of the commercial world to dedicate more of my time to my first love and passion - painting and illustrating.
I work both in Oils and Watercolours and have an illustrative approach to both mediums in a variety of styles from loose abstract to photo-realism working in rich colours with sensitive mark making.
In my recent works I have been using oils ‘thinned’ with turps, giving an unpredictable flow to the work. As a result, each piece, though initially planned, takes on an organic ‘flow’ of its own which can direct the work in a totally different direction dependent upon the results. This technique is almost like treating the oil paint as a watercolour effect, enabling me to build the layers as I progress.
With the additional use of graphite this adds to the mark making, tightening the final pieces together.

6 days for two rods fishing sea-run brown trout at Kau-Tapen – Rio Grande, Argentina

Highest Bid: £5,000.00

The Rio Grande’s First House of Fly-Fishing
Kau Tapen Lodge opened for business on Patagonia’s legendary Rio Grande River in 1984. Fifty years prior, in the mid-1930s, juvenile brown trout were introduced to the twisting internal arteries of the region. Those trailblazing trout were eventually washed out to sea, wriggled through the Straight of Magellan and beyond, and would return annually to the rich waters of the Grande to propagate new generations of sea run brown trout. Anglers have been there to greet these beastly migrators ever since—revelling in elegant accommodations amidst best-in-class fishing at Kau Tapen Lodge.
Kau Tapen translates to "house of fishing" in the native Ona tongue. And here, in the heart of Tierra del Fuego, you’ll explore and fish the best pools on the legendary Rio Grande. Spend your days spey fishing or casting switch and single-handed rods for record-shattering sea run brown trout. Short walks and shallow wading are typical and you’ll sample a variety of new water daily. As the sun sets and evening winds dissipate skate waking flies over a resting lie, float nymphs tight to cross-river cutbanks, and swing silhouette-casting leeches to sea run browns you’ve only seen in your dreams.

2 rods for 7 nights and 6 days fishing on 12 - 19 March 2016.

Please note:  Lot is for the lodge only. Flights, hotels, transfers etc. at bidder’s cost, though Nervous Waters will help in organising domestic travel and other arrangements, if required.
